Etinpower Empowers Iguemokhua and Evbuwa Communities for Economic Growth

In a remarkable initiative led by Etinpower, the communities of Iguemokhua and Evbuwa are experiencing a significant boost in economic growth. With a focus on community empowerment, Etinpower has taken proactive steps to enhance the livelihoods and prosperity of the residents. Through their unwavering dedication and innovative approach, Etinpower has brought hope and economic opportunities to the doorsteps of the communities. Their initiative aims to uplift the residents by providing them with resources and support to increase their incomes and improve their quality of life. One such initiative includes the distribution of Noiler chickens, a high-productivity breed known for its resilience. These chickens are being made available to the women of the community, enabling them to generate income and become more self-reliant. The introduction of Noiler chickens is seen as a positive step towards economic growth and development within the communities. As a part of this initiative, Mrs. Claire Ighodaro CBE, gladly agreed to sponsor the gift of chickens to the residents. Her generous contribution of 100 chickens has augmented the numbers for those who have already purchased them, further expanding the economic opportunities for the community members. In an interview, one grateful community member, Mr. John Ogieva, remarked, "Mrs. Ighodaro's gift of Noiler chickens is a real blessing for us! The gift of Noiler chickens from Mrs. Claire Ighodaro CBE is making a big difference in our lives. It's not just about money, but also about becoming more independent in our community.” Claire Ighodaro CBE is a British-born Nigerian chartered management accountant. She was the first female president of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and previously the financial director of BT Broadband. She is a trustee of the British Council and an independent board member of the UK Trade & Investment Executive Board. She is a board member and Audit Committee Chair of Lloyd’s of London and a non-executive director and Governance Committee Chair of Merrill Lynch. In 2008, she was awarded with a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to business. The impact of Etinpower's initiative has been met with heartfelt appreciation from the residents, who recognize the positive changes it brings to their lives. The partnership between Etinpower and the communities has laid the foundation for sustainable economic growth, fostering a sense of hope and enthusiasm among the residents. Iguemokhua is a vibrant community known for it's rich cultural heritage and close-knit community bonds. It is situated within the Orhionmwon Local Government Area and is home to a diverse population. The residents of Iguemokhua engage in various economic activities, including agriculture, trading, and small-scale businesses. Evbuwa is another community situated within the Orhionmwon Local Government Area. It is known for its peaceful environment and scenic beauty. The community is primarily agrarian, with agriculture serving as the primary source of livelihood for the residents. The transformative potential of Etinpower's initiative goes beyond economic benefits. By empowering the communities, they inspire residents to dream big and work towards a better future. "The Power of Light: How Access to Clean Energy Transforms Lives in Evbuwa Community"

In the heart of Evbuwa Community, a radiant transformation has taken place, one that can only be described as awe-inspiring. This is the story of how the power of Clean Energy, brought by EtinPower, has ignited the lives of its residents. Jonathan Osarobo Egharevba, a proud member of this vibrant community, reflects on their remarkable journey from darkness to light. As the "fourth in command" of Evbuwa, his perspective is deeply rooted in the community's shared experience. He reminisces, "Before this light came, we were just in darkness. Surprisingly, when the light came, we were never expecting such a thing like that. Even in the future, we thought such a gesture would not come from anywhere." The arrival of Clean Energy had a profound impact on Jonathan's family. He continues, "Before you came, my children and my wife, they were managing this store. We spent a lot of money buying fuel, and every few days, our generator would break down. The cycle of spending on fuel and expensive repairs was never-ending. Even my children would buy new generators, and after just a few months, the same experience would repeat itself. But since light came, we are enjoying your services." The ripple effect of this newfound light has been monumental. Jonathan emphasizes, "Before the light came, everyone had been managing. But today, it has brought a great development to the community. People from Benin are coming to the community to acquire land for building and other purposes. Even companies are coming too, all because of EtinPower. We enjoy your services. God will continue to bless you." In the neighboring household, Mr. Sunday Igbinidun adds his voice to the chorus of transformation. He recalls the years of darkness that engulfed the community, saying, "For years, we had not experienced light. We couldn't even watch the Governor's speech or keep up with the state of the country because there was no light." With EtinPower's arrival, Sunday's life, like many others, has taken a brighter turn. "As EtinPower has come to give us light, we can now buy a DVD, operate it, and see the government and the state of the country today," he says. "Through the light we are able to do POS business. With the subsidy removal, I would not have been able to afford fuel to power my generator." He goes on to emphasize the financial relief access to clean energy has brought: "Before, I would buy fuel for 10,000 naira, and sometimes it wouldn't last for two days. Now, I recharge 2,000 naira worth of energy credit, and it lasts me 10 days in managing my business." The ripple effects of this newfound light are unmistakable, as Sunday points out, "With the light now, everybody is coming to buy land. EtinPower truly empowers us. The light empowers us to do business without which I would not be able to train my children through school if I was spending as much as 10,000 on fuel for my generator." In Evbuwa, EtinPower has not only brought light to homes but also ignited hope, opportunity, and community development. As the once darkened nights give way to a brighter future, the residents of this remarkable community stand testament to the transformative power of clean energy. EtinPower's commitment to providing clean and accessible energy to un-electrified communities continues to change lives, one household at a time. It's a testament to the incredible power of clean energy and the boundless possibilities it brings to those who have lived in darkness for far too long.

EtinPower is honored to be a part of Seplat Energy’s work to enhance the livelihoods of communities within its areas of operation.


Seplat Youth Entrepreneurial Programme, Sapele. (May 2025)

The Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP) was launched as part of Seplat Energy Plc’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at empowering young Nigerians through hands-on training and exposure to renewable energy systems. This initiative was designed to contribute to both youth capacity development and community-level energy access by combining technical training with the development of a clean energy mini-grid.

EtinPower Limited is honored to have been selected as the implementation partner due to its strong track record in clean energy delivery and its vision of building bankable communities across Nigeria, particularly in the southern region. EtinPower’s experience in designing, constructing, and managing mini-grids combined with its commitment to inclusive energy access made it a strategic partner for achieving the YEP objectives.

This project had two components:

  • The training of 50 indigenous participants in the rudiments of solar installation and minigrid management over 14 weeks
  • The construction and commissioning of a minigrid the Bini community of Ologbonugu in Orhionmwon LGA, Edo State. This mini-grid facility has an installed solar generation capacity of 18.4 kWp and a battery storage capacity of 30 kWh currently powering 105 active connections.
